Grammy Awards 2020, trionfo pop, Cage The Elephant miglior album rock

Agli Oscar della musica Cage The Elephant, Gary Clark Jr. e Tool si impongono nelle categorie rock

Sono terminati da poche ore i Grammy Awards 2020 allo Staples Center di Los Angeles, sotto la conduzione di Alicia Keys. Un'edizione segnata dalla scomparsa di Kobe Bryant e della figlia Gianna Maria, ricordati dalla stessa Alicia Keys e da molti dei presenti al momento delle esibizioni, e dal trionfo della musica pop nelle categorie più importanti: Album of the Year, Record of the Year e Song of the Year.

Billie Eilish, 19enne star losangelina, ha letteralmente sbancato portandosi a casa tutti e tre i principali premi della serata con il singolo 'Bad Guy' e l'album 'When we fall asleep, where do we go?' e diventando di fatto la più giovane artista nella storia dei Grammys a vincere l'iconica statuetta a forma di grammofono.

Il mondo del rock compare in modo abbastanza defilato rispetto ai momenti clou della cerimonia, segno che il ricambio generazionale non è ancora davvero avvenuto. Sono infatti gli Aerosmith (grande assente il batterista Joey Kramer per la disputa legale che lo ha visto rimanere lontano dalla band secondo sentenza del giudice) in una storica reunion live con i Run-DMC, sul palco per riproporre il classico Walk This Way, dopo che Steven Tyler e soci avevano già scaldato la platea con Living on The Edge, a infiammare la cerimonia con il graffio blues della chitarra di Joe Perry.

Gary Clark Jr si porta a casa il premio come miglior performance rock e sale sul palco con i Roots per una versione dal vivo della sua This Land.

Ai Tool va il premio per la miglior performance metal grazie al brano 7empest, presente nel loro ultimo lavoro 'Fear Inoculum'.

Tra i presentatori della serata, annunciati ed attesissimi, anche Ozzy e Sharon Osbourne. Marito e moglie si sono avvicendati sul palco per premiare la categoria Best Rap/Sung Performance, vinta da DJ Khaled per Higher.

Il miglior album rock dell'anno è dei Cage The Elephant. Il disco si chiama Social Cues, primo nel giudizio dell'Academy, battendo la concorrenza di Bring me the Horizon e Rival Sons. Il cantante Matt Schult al momento del ritiro del premio ha dichiarato commosso: "Questo è uno degli anni più difficili che abbiamo passato come band ed è incredibile essere riusciti a prendere così tante cose negative capitate ad ognuno di noi e renderle positive" .
