I Gorillaz sono tornati

Momentary Bliss è il primo capitolo del progetto Song Machine

La band virtuale più famosa del mondo, i Gorillaz, è pronta a tornare con del nuovo materiale. Damon Albarn e Jamie Hewlett hanno infatti prodotto, con l'aiuto di altri musicisti, una nuova serie audiovisiva dal titolo Song Machine che presenterà il nuovo materiale della band, documentandone il making of.

Il primo capitolo della band include una nuova canzone, 'Momentary Bliss', realizzata in collaborazione con il rapper Slowthai e la band degli Slaves, composta da Laurie Vincent e Isaac Holman. Per quanto riguarda il progetto, ecco le dichiarazioni dei Gorillaz: 

"'Song Machine' è un modo completamente nuovo per fare ciò che facciamo. I Gorillaz rompono gli schemi perché gli schemi sono diventati vecchi. 'Song Machine' si nutre dell'ignoto. Qualsiasi cosa stia arrivando, siamo pronti a produrre come se non ci fosse un domani". 

I nuovi episodi della serie verranno caricati in data per ora sconosciuta ma sicuramente, secondo le parole degli stessi componenti della band, "in diretta opposizione rispetto al tradizionale ciclo registrazione/singolo/album".

Sui social della band erano già apparsi dei post teaser che anticipavano l'uscita del primo episodio, ora ufficialmente disponibile sul loro canale Youtube.

Una breve sigla svela le prime immagini della band a lavoro in uno studio casalingo, con le consuete componenti digitali della band a comparire qua e là, tra la parte rap di Slowthai e le schitarrate degli Slaves. Il suono della canzone ricorda, quando apre, una sorta di ska-punk digitale, ogni tanto riconducile anche alla colonna sonora di un videogame d'annata, con una velata citazione dei Beatles nei primi versi del brano (Lovely Rita, meter maid ).

I Gorillaz sono fermi dal punto di vista delle uscite discografiche all'album The Now Now del 2018, da cui era stato estratto il singolo Humility.
