Quando la Disney ispirò i Creedence Clearwater Revival

John Fogerty ha raccontato di come è nata la band immaginaria di cui parla il brano e che diede il nome al terzo album della band

John Fogerty, storico frontman dei Creedence Clearwater Revival, è stato intervistato da Uncle Joe Benson in un episodio di Ultimate Classic Rock Nights e ha raccontato di come una pubblicità della Disney gli sia servita come fonte di ispirazione per uno dei brani più famosi della band: 'Down On The Corner'. 

"Avevo visto sul giornale questa pubblicità per della roba della Disney, non sono sicuro se si trattasse di un gioco o di un pupazzo - ha detto Fogerty - in ogni caso, c'era questa pubblicità di Winnie The Pooh e The Super Pooh Package o qualcosa del genere e ne fui affascinato, in qualche modo nella mia testa diventò Willy and the Poor Boys, Walt non farmi causa! Era il nome di questa specie di piccolo gruppo immaginario di musicisti di strada, allora iniziai a scrivere la canzone."

La canzone venne scritta dai Creedence in giorni particolari, racconta Fogerty:"  Stavamo lavorando al brano mentre registavamo l'Andy Williams Show nel 1969, la settimana esatta prima di Woodstock. Leteralmente abbiamo preso un volo venerdì sera, preso un volo notturno e sabato sera eravamo sul palco di Woodstock. Tutta quella settimana sono rimasto chiuso nella mia stanza di motel a scrivere 'Down On The Corner' e ad inserire i membri della mia band immaginaria". 

"Willy and the poor boys", diventerà anche il titolo del terzo album dei Creedence Clearwater Revival che, oltre a 'Down On The Corner' conteneva altre hit come 'Fortunate Son'. 

Pochi giorni fa, Fogerty ha preso parte alla serie di concerti casalinghi lanciati dall'edizione USA di Rolling Stone chiamata "In My Room".

Nello show di otto minuti, il rocker americano ha suonato due classici dei Creedence Clearwater Revival: 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain' e 'Bad Moon Rising' dal suo studio casalingo e 'Long as I Can See The Light' al piano davanti al camino.

Fogerty ha introdotto l'esibizione ricordando: "Sono sicuramente tempi difficili quelli che stiamo attraversando. State in salute, lavatevi le mani, tutti voi. Nessuno sa quanto durerà tutto questo ma più stiamo a sentire ciò che ci dicono i medici, meno ci vorrà.
